OK Let’s play connect the basketball shaped dots.  OK perhaps rubber chicken shaped dots. Ok perhaps both.  Brace yourselves and read on:
Hans used to be the President of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter of the Virginia Tech Alumni Association.  As a result he had the pleasure of setting up events for the HOKIES, (and to this day organizes football game watching for the Alumni).    One of the events was a talk by Virginia Tech Alumni Distinguished Professor (in Sociology) Bill Snezik.  As it turns out, Bill was an academic advisor for and is good friends with Virginia Tech Basketball star and NBA player Dell Curry.   Dell Curry is the father of  Steph Curry,an NBA star playing for The Golden State Warriors,.  Steph Curry had a fiance (now wife) Ayesha Alexander.
Bill said to Hans that when he arrived in San Francisco, he would go to a Golden State Warriors game and afterwards visit with Steph and Ayesha.  Bill offered to bring Hans along. Bill also said he would make arrangements for Steph to sign a basketball, which could be used in a raffle as a fundraiser for The San Franciso HOKIES alumni chapter.    Hans was very happy about this.  AND THEN he asked Bill if Steph would sign a rubber chicken.  How many people go about doing things this way?
And the rest is history.
